
The Commission on Transparency, Personal Data Protection, and Fight Against Corruption of the Congress of Mexico City, under the presidency of Deputy Víctor Hugo Romo de Vivar Guerra, approved an Agreement that establishes a discussion period for various initiatives referred to the Commission. This measure aligns with the recent constitutional reform regarding organizational simplification approved by the Honorable Union Congress, which directly affects the regulatory framework of autonomous bodies.
In this context, Deputy Víctor Romo explained that the Agreement responds to the need to contribute to the performance of legislative functions and to adapt local regulations to federal reforms. Specifically, he referred to the dissolution of seven autonomous and regulatory bodies, including the National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information, and Personal Data Protection (INAI). The discussion period will run from December 22, 2024, to the next June 22, 2025.
During this period, the Commission will focus on the analysis and ruling of various initiatives, among which stand out reforms to the Transparency Law, Access to Public Information and Accountability of Mexico City regarding web accessibility, modification of constitutional provisions and local laws to harmonize the dissolution of autonomous bodies with the state regulatory framework, a new Law for the Use of Artificial Intelligence and the Processing of Personal Data, and reforms to the Law on the Protection of Personal Data held by Obliged Subjects.
Deputy Víctor Hugo Romo emphasized the importance of this discussion period, highlighting that the aim is to ensure that Mexico City has a solid regulatory framework, in line with new federal provisions, without compromising the rights of transparency and personal data protection of the citizenry. With the approval of this Agreement, the Commission on Transparency reaffirms its essential role in building a legal framework that facilitates an orderly and efficient transition in the implementation of the reforms proposed by the Federal Executive.
